Remembrance

Blog by Becerra Arturo, Cisneros Roberto, and Valdez Kristho and we created this blog for a school project about 9/11 for High Tech High Chula Vista. We will tell the stories of Will Hayes and Brian Westbay. Their stories of 9/11 will -be about their experiences of the day from far away. But not only will we be talking about their experiences but we will also show how we show our remembrances through writing.

Interviewee : Brian Westbay

Interviewer: Brian Westbay

Story: San Diego, California, 2,400 miles away from New York. Brian Westbay was asleep on that fateful day. He didn’t live the horror to see the attacks but he still knew what a great misfortune it was for everyone especially for the ones grasping for their final bit of air. He awoke from state of slumber when he heard his father. As the floors creaked as he got down he saw the thunderous sound on the television. It was a plane colliding with a building then he said, “What movie is this?” His father turns to him and tells his son, “It’s not a movie, this is real life”. I would be very shocked if I was on the other end of hearing this.

Interviewee: Will Hayes

It was early morning for Hayes as he was driving to work at Grossmont Center, San Diego. But while he was driving the economic capital of the USA was being attacked, the Twin Towers. All while he was driving the company he worked for was in danger, because the first plane struck. But once he had arrived to work he looked to the television and the truth struck him as hard as the first plane colliding to the tower. While he was watching helplessly while everyone tries to escape, everyone just watching the TV at what was happening before them. Luckily everyone working at the company were save but that cant be said for many others that died in the attacks.

9/11 history

1.The agencies that were supposed to be focused on stuff like terrorism didn’t really take it seriously until Al-Qaeda started bombing US ships and embassies it took what went down on 9/11 for them to start really caring and doing something about terrorism

2.On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. This ultimately started the war on terrorism.

3.On May 2, 2011, US special forces stormed Abbottabad, Pakistan to carry out a mission to assassinate Osama Bin Laden. US special forces breached outer walls of the compound, and then fought there way through the building. In total three men and one woman were killed, including Osama bin Laden’s son. Bin Laden was shot right under the eye and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Memorializing through poetry: We have been tasked to write poems about the people who seen these attacks and use their experience for remembrance through writing.

Arturo’s writing piece: Disbelief

Robert’s writing piece: 9/11

Kristho’s writing piece: 9/11 Poem

Conclusion: After the attacks of 9/11 we got the chance to learn the experiences of other people and used this to honor the memories through writing.
