My Hometown

Hometown is not just a place where we were born, it is a place where we create memories.

The quote above categorically encapsulates the enthralling feeling I have been witnessing for days. Currently, we are in the midst of this interminable lockdown and just like everyone else, I also did not really get a chance to go back to all my favorite and cherished avenues in my hometown, Jaipur. But even after the monotony which the isolation period sometime tends to create, I believe that somehow, I have somewhere found the old me in this period. I think it’s because I am in my home. Though I did go out a few times during this quarantine period to buy some essentials and groceries, it was my visit to a nearby departmental store two days ago that filled me up with nostalgia.

I crossed the same routes via which I used to cycle my way to my Maths tuition when I was in Ninth grade. I walked through the same set of crossroads that I always struggled to cross and the same shops and houses across the streets, though some have upgraded to become majestic bungalows. Though two years is not much in terms of the passage of time, but, I guess, that day I could explore the surroundings congruously. With empty streets and no hustle to rush, I could walk and recollect my childhood memories.

Also, as I mentioned in the beginning, I have been witnessing this enthralling feeling for quite a few days now. I think it’s the peace of mind that one gets when we are in our homes. I mentioned in one of my earlier blogs that I have become one of the innumerable admirers of the city of Mumbai. The city has offered me endless opportunities and has transformed me to become a more rational and pragmatic human being. I love my hometown but yes, I cannot deny the fact I had to move out and go to an entirely new place because of the wider horizons which Mumbai provided and continues to provide. I am completely cognizant of the pros and cons of both the cities where I have lived. I know that in order to grow and learn, Mumbai is a better place. Rather in terms of many other aspects such as exposure to the corporate world, a busy lifestyle, a constant struggle to improve and endless competition, etc. I have become accustomed to all these aspects of Mumbai life. In Mumbai, there is hardly any time to introspect. Decisions have to be made constantly and instantly. Intuitive thinking and organization are required at every stage. At least they are required in my college.

I am aware of all the added benefits Mumbai or for that matter, any other place with a similar profile can offer. Therefore, I am cognizant about the areas where I cannot rely on my hometown. Despite all these facts, here I am, writing this blog about how I love and adore my city. I believe it’s natural. Irrespective of what it has to offer me for my future or what potentials the city possesses, it is my home. It is my hometown. I belong to this city and the fact cannot be changed. It has made me who I am. And it still doesn’t fail to provide me with mental peace. It always rejuvenates my mental health.

Mayanagri has undoubtedly transformed my personality but Gulabinagri built my personality. No matter wherever I go, I will always love the streets and street food of Jaipur. My school, tuition place, parks, fields, my friends, and each and every place that I used to visit during my school days, Jaipur will always remain my first home because this is where I find the old me, the actual me!

No matter where I live in the future, I will always be a Jaipurite!
