Becky Finally Finds Her Inner Peace

It was in her bag all along!

Beckie shifts her weight at the table, ignoring the pitying glances of her friends. As she tries to balance out the extra weight on her left side. Her bag, or “The Abyss” as her friends call it, has long been a source for mockery.

“We call it her baby,” one of her friends fake-whispered. “Because she carries it around so protectively. We joke that we should buy her a stroller.”

Others are less amused by their friend’s menacing accessory.

“I asked her to watch my dog once.” The statuesque brunette dabbed at her eyes with a tissue. “She put him in her bag and I never saw him again…”

A young man nods and gives the teary brunette a comforting pat on the shoulder. “I had her run to a hospital across town to deliver a heart transplant. She put it, ice box in all, in her purse. She got to the hospital quickly enough, but it took her over an hour to locate the organ in her bag. By that time, my father was dead.”

“Still Beckie insisted that the bag brings her peace-of-mind. I am not only carrying my things, I am carrying the burdens of society.”

Beckie had the last laugh when, while searching for her lip balm, she came across the ultimate prize. Nirvana. “This feeling of peace just washed over me. I knew that it was somewhere in there.” Beckie licked her lips. “Though inner peace really doesn’t do anything for my dry lip situation.”
